HCA Member Show 2024

73 works of art were submitted to enter the show this year from 14 towns and 1 state. The artwork submitted this year was excellent, and narrowing it down was extremely difficult. However, the works selected will make a powerful portrayal of our community of artists.  Juror Sarah Alexander selected 46 for display in the gallery. She is a Core Artist Member at Fountain Street Gallery in Boston, MA.  Her work is in private collections and has been shown extensively throughout New England, as well as abroad. Sarah's work has been published by North Light Books.

The HCA Members Show 2024 Exhibition will be available for viewing at the HCA's Lotvin Family Gallery December 27, 2023 - February 15,  2024 as well as online here.

The HCA gallery hours for public viewing: Monday - Fridays 9 am - 7 pm and Saturdays 9 am - 2 pm. If you wish to bring a group of 6 or more people to view the exhibit, please contact the HCA in advance to schedule a group visit.

Sarah Alexander
$3,500.00

Dimensions: 34 x 27 x 1
Medium: Watercolor and ink
Year created: 2021
Artwork Description: Using botanical images as symbols for people and emotions helps me to process what I'm trying to say when there are no words to say it. In this piece, I was overwhelmed with missing my family during the pandemic. I used blueberries to represent my daughter who was living in North Carolina, and spiky seedpods to symbolize feeling stuck. Using a wonky neoclassical design that morphs and explodes like a fountain, I symbolized the love, grief, and longing I was experiencing. The asters were also in abundance in my garden at the time. As my world felt smaller, my garden was my salvation.

The light caresses the exterior plaster of this 200-year-old house. Surrounding the window, the luminous white limestone, known as "Tuffeau stone," reveals an infinite range of shimmering hues. Fawn at Dawn
Jessica Fan

Dimensions: 19 x 26.5 x 1.5
Medium: oil paint
Year created: 2023
Artwork Description: I created this piece over the course of three months at my art teacher's studio (Gallery in the Pines). I started with a pencil sketch of a local landscape. However, the actual scenery lacked the vivid hues that usually make artwork catch my eye. Looking for ways to put colors on my palette and use them strategically, I flipped through a collection of landscape paintings. With my new inspiration, personal art style, and loose guidance from my teacher, I progressed through my painting week by week until the result matched my imagination. (has a frame, can be hung, frame not pictured)

$350.00

Dimensions: 11 x 14 x 1
Medium: Watercolor
Year created: 2023
Artwork Description: The Gristmill, in Sudbury, Massachusetts, is well known to locals, and often painted. It borders the grounds of the historical landmark, Longfellow's Wayside Inn, an establishment that once hosted Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Henry David Thoreau and George Washington, among others. My painting depicts the rear view of the mill, a view hidden from many passersby. I was attracted to the scene by the layout of the composition, the autumn warmth, and my love of stone.
